We Bring History to Life

Evansville Historical Foundation

Visiting the Evansville Historical Foundation is a great way to learn about our pioneer ancestors and how they lived. If you are interested in genealogy, they also have a research library available. Narrator: "Evansville Historical Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Alf Thompson. Our mission is to preserve the history of Evansville, Minnesota and the surrounding community for future generations to enjoy. Alf Thompson was born in Evansville in 1895 and grew up here. The Foundation's main office is in the family's homestead, the same house where he was born. Alf became an independent oil producer and philanthropist who had a vision to recreate a village similar to the kind founded by early settlers of the area. Evansville Historical Foundation maintains Pioneer Village, a living history museum. Pioneer Village consists of eleven structures that would have been typical in this area. You will find everything from a sod house to a town hall. There is an authentic log cabin, a schoolhouse, a church, and homes furnished as they would have been in the past. Each is filled with exhibits and artifacts from days gone by. If you are interested in family history, Evansville Historical Foundation has numerous resources and reference materials available for genealogical research. We host a variety of special events at the Evansville Historical Foundation. Tours are offered to groups of all sizes and all ages. Pioneer Church can be reserved for weddings, baptisms, and confirmation services. The Mound Grove Cemetery Association, West Douglas County American Legion Post & Auxiliary 188, and Pioneer Heritage Conservation Trust all have their meeting rooms and offices on the grounds. Evansville Historical Foundation is open to the public on a seasonal basis. Find us at 304 Gran Street or on the web. Come and take a look around, your trip back in time may surprise you."
