<image:caption>OUR FOUNDER 1895 – 1997 Alf Thompson, an independent oil producer and philanthropist, was the founder of the Evansville Historical Foundation, located on the homestead settled by Wilhelm Thompson who received a patent on the land in 1875 and built the house in 1878. Mr. Thompson was one of many pioneers with a deep interest in preserving their roots in the Evansville area. His vision was to recreate a village of the kind founded by early settlers of the area, providing younger generations with a view of pioneer life. Mr. Thompson will long be remembered for his support of the Evansville Historical Foundation and the Evansville area.</image:caption>

Other exhibits include a unique antique kitchen and pictures of former residents. The house was built prior to 1894 by John J. Williams and later the William L. Beach family lived there. However, the longest residents of the home were the Johansons. Hjelmer and Olga Johanson made their home in this house from October 1906 to November 1970.</image:caption>

<image:title>Mound Grove Cemetery Association - Mound Grove Cemetery Association</image:title>
<image:caption>Mound Grove Cemetery, one of the loveliest cemeteries in West Central Minnesota, is the result of the generosity and vision of Alf Thompson. Mr. Thompson retained the services of renowned horticulture expert Jane P. McKinnon, Professor Emeritus at the University of Minnesota in the 1980’s, to design Mound Grove Cemetery. Ms. McKinnon wrote a book about the experience, entitled “A Green Hill Close By”, which is available at the Evansville Historical Foundation. The original grounds have expanded over the years to include a Veterans Memorial, which is the site for Evansville’s annual Memorial Day Service. The Evansville American Legion Post 188 creates an Avenue of Flags along the road leading to the Cemetery. The flags surrounded by the natural beauty of the grounds are an impressive and memorable sight. Cemetery Board members include: LeAnn Strand -President, John Hanson - Vice President, Duaine Burros - Sexton, Dean Anderson - Treasurer, Marlys Englund - Secretary, Rick Evavold, Daryl Johnson, Matt Kronberg and Brian Luetgers. If you are interested in finding out more about Mound Grove Cemetery, you can contact the Evansville Historical Foundation Office, or LeAnn Strand 763-443-0646</image:caption>

It also provided reenactments of pioneer life during Evansville’s 125th Anniversary Celebration in 2007. EHF has also served as the site for various reunions of all types. Several events and exhibits were scheduled in Summer of 2008 as part of the Native American Sesquicentennial Project.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Whatnot Garage - The Whatnot Garage</image:title>
<image:caption>This remodeled garage now serves as the Foundation’s what not (or odds and ends) display area. Current displays include Evansville Railroad items, a large loom, stone heads of tools used by Native Americans, vintage winter sleds, skis, and more. The garage also houses the replica models of Evansville’s railroad depot and churches. These scale models are mounted on wagons and are usually part of the annual Evansville 4th of July parade. The models were built by local craftsmen.</image:caption>
